Black Willow Salix nigra Salicaceae family

Willows are fast growing, highly adaptable trees. They are highly invasive and will take any type of soil. They can be found (in some form) most everywhere.      Willow contains salicylates, and aspirin-like drug. Once again, this chemical is found throughout the plants, but its highest concentration is in the cambium. Brewed in tea, it will relieve pain, reduce inflammation and lower fever, much like the poplars.

Topical uses (cambium or leaves) include insect bites, minor burns and skin irritations. The inner bark can also be used as survival food although it is very bitter.
